Automotive sensors

With WITTE sensors, we are able to integrate various safe comfort functions into our product portfolio and thus redefine vehicle access. Each of our sensors has been specially developed to support a wide range of applications and can be seamlessly integrated into existing systems. Whether high security requirements or comfort functions, we reliably implement individual solutions for our customers.

Touch sensors

Our WITTE:access touch sensors (MoC sensor or force sensors) enable a wide range of applications and are used in various systems. In the area of exterior door handles, the WITTE:access Force can be found in the wing handles, extendable handles and recessed handles. These sensors are also ideal for vehicle lids (tailgates or the FRUNK). They are also used for interior actuation, particularly for safety-relevant applications such as interior door confirmation.

  • Function: Based on an electrical system that requires a definable force to be activated.
  • Precise control:All acting forces are filtered to trigger only intended actions.
  • Feedback: The sensors provide optional visual or haptic feedback for an optimized user experience.

Our sensors are integrated on a circuit board that also includes NFC, proximity sensors and the force sensor. This means that vehicles can be woken up even if Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) or Ultra Wide Band (UWB) is not being used. The integration of an AI control system is currently being prepared so that the sensors can filter signals even more efficiently in the future.

It goes without saying that WITTE:access touch sensors meet the highest safety requirements and their reliability has been certified by an external institute. Our sensors also meet the ASIL D standard.

Thanks to the patented sensor family, the WITTE:access Touch can also be installed as a stand-alone solution in other tiers.

Gesture control

The WITTE:access Scan gesture sensor is based on an innovative, AI-driven approach that offers high accuracy. The data sets for recognizing different gestures are taught in a neural network. The WITTE sensors are very fast and recognize the gestures performed with high precision. One application example is door opening using gestures, whereby all doors and flaps on the vehicle can be considered and can each be operated using different, intuitive gestures.

  • Data collection: Massive training of the system through neural networks
  • Speed: Very fast response times
  • Cooperation: We work with our wholly owned subsidiary IMA within the framework of EU research projects and can therefore pick up on trends very quickly

Obstacle detection

For obstacle detection, we use a comprehensive and holistic system approach with the WITTE radar sensor. The radar systems are seamlessly integrated into the application, such as handles. This innovative solution enables effective obstacle detection and collision avoidance. If, for example, a side door or automatically opening tailgate is opened by a gesture, the WITTE:access Scan uses radar to check the opening path for possible obstacles and stops the opening process before this happens. Integration into other vehicle systems is also conceivable in order to ensure optimum adaptation and performance of the overall system.

In the area of radar, we also work closely with the developers at our subsidiary IMA, who also validate the sensors for us.

  • Integration options: The radar system can also be integrated into door handles
  • Collision avoidance: Effective obstacle detection to avoid collisions
  • Cooperation: Validation of the sensors by the WITTE subsidiary IMA

Face recognition

With our advanced WITTE:access Detect facial recognition system, vehicle access is based on personal identification using facial recognition. The face recognition sensor is integrated into the B-pillar. In order to meet the highest data protection requirements, the data remains locally in the vehicle and is not uploaded to an external server. This also ensures that the system is available offline at all times.

Vehicle access rights can, of course, also be shared - here it is possible to train new people directly on the vehicle.

  • Functions: Offline availability, personal identification, rights distribution and training of new persons directly on the vehicle.
  • Data protection: Data is stored locally in the vehicle and meets the highest data protection requirements.
  • Integration: Integrated into the B-pillar of the vehicle.
